SURF/SCR Workshop - 24/06/2010

What practical lessons can be drawn from sharing experience and learning across the UK on converting the experience of local regeneration projects and initiatives into enhanced service provision within conventional budget lines?

SURF and the Scottish Government’s Scottish Centre for Regeneration (SCR) are hosting a free joint workshop event to explore the experiences of mainstreaming regeneration initiatives across the four UK nations.

The event will examine the scope for mainstreaming in the current context as a means of securing good practice locally while successfully extending it across wider local authority service delivery and budgetary frameworks.

Key questions for debate

  • How can we capture the added value of local experience and knowledge while working at a local authority wide level?
  • How do we successfully refocus budgets and services and become more effective at using the range of resources available to us?
  • How can we ensure regeneration activity remains a priority for resource allocation in a time of financial restraint?

UK participants

  • England – Nicky de Beere, Operations Manager, Leadership Centre for Local Government
  • Northern Ireland – Keith Sutherland, Planning and Transport Policy Manager, Belfast City Council
  • Scotland – Peter Allan, Community Planning Manager, Dundee Partnership
  • Wales – Paul Dear, Head of Communities First Unit, Welsh Assembly Government
