The Lochgelly Charrette - 13/10/2010

RICS Scotland

The Scotland Charrette series formed part of the Scottish Government's Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative (SSCI). Lochgelly was selected as one of three Charrettes, alongside the Crichton Campus in Dumfries and the Grandholme Trust in Aberdeen, all having already achieved SSCI status.

The Lochgelly Charrette was facilitated by Fife Council and the nature of the process fully tested the capabilities, resources and skills of everyone involved.

Andres Duany (DPZ) led the Charrette process and considered Lochgelly to be one of the most complex and challenging projects his firm had ever undertaken. DPZ's challenge was to create a plan to expand Lochgelly's population by around 50% over the next 15 years. Did he achieve this? What are the implications for planning?
