SFHA Event: Aids and Adaptations: Who’s Paying The Price? - 20/08/2010
This half day event, part of a series of SFHA events looking at the housing policy discussion paper, aims to provide a key opportunity for housing providers, local authorities, and housing support and care agencies to come together to discuss these challenging issues and consider how best housing associations and cooperatives can continue to meet the needs of the communities they serve and to adapt to the challenging environment that we are all facing.
The publication of the Scottish Government’s Housing Policy Discussion Paper Fresh Thinking: New Ideas has now raised the issues of an older people’s housing strategy, how best to keep people in their existing homes for longer (if that is what they choose) and also posed challenging questions about the future funding of aids and adaptations and making the best possible use of existing stock. Alongside this comes the Wider Planning for an Ageing Population report which also flags up the important role that aids and adaptations plays in keeping older and other vulnerable people living happy, independent lives in the community rather than in hospital. At the same time, there are clear signals that public expenditure constraints in coming years will limit the amount of new specialist housing that can be built. So is it now a case of “make do and mend”?
