Realising the Potential for Healthy Homes in Scotland - 20/04/2010

In conjunction with Mackay Hannah this one day SFHA conference has been organised to highlight the important role that housing has to play in improving public health. SFHA are delighted that Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, will be the keynote speaker. The seminar will examine a range of issues, including:

  • The key role for housing in reducing carbon emissions and eliminating fuel poverty
  • The importance of mixed and sustainable communities to social equity, health and well-being
  • The role of masterplanning, urban design and quality greenspace in encouraging play, walking and cycling
  • The impact that regeneration can have on health and quality of life particularly in disadvantaged communities

With the introduction of The Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 the Scottish government announced ambitious environmental targets. In common with UK government aspirations, the Scottish longer-term goal is an 80% reduction on 1990 levels by 2050, with a 42% reduction required by 2020.
